Drogentotengedenktag

Report of the Aidshilfe Düsseldorf e.V.:

From July 2021 to July 2022 we have lost 36 friends, acquaintances and clients. The youngest deceased had just turned 22 years old.

On 21.07 the day should offer all participants*innen a possibility to mourn. But it was also important to find new energy, to think about ourselves and our lives. The day started at 12 o'clock in the Elisabethkirche on the Vinzenzplatz. Candles were lit for each of the deceased.

Many employees of the facilities, friends and family served as candle bearers and touching intercessions were made. On the way out, free bags were distributed, filled with various utensils. After the church, the group went on to a "come together" at Worringer Platz. With coffee and cake, about 150 people were able to exchange ideas and mourn together. For the big hunger, there was a hot dog stand, which was very well received. A wheel of fortune invited to win great prizes. There were 50 filled backpacks and 50 fanny packs filled with crackers, among other things.

At the end of the event, everything was distributed. The glass house was decorated as a place to take souvenirs. With a lot of love canvases were made and put up, which reminded of the sky, respectively the galaxy. Stars with the names and the age of death were pasted on the panes. The mood was underlined with candles and white roses, which the visitors were allowed to take home at the end of the event. The glass house was allowed to shine the whole weekend in memory!

Many thanks to Flingermobil for the touching fair. Many thanks to Bäckerei Oehme for the delicious cake. Many thanks to Düsseldorfer Wollengel for the 50 backpacks from the summer campaign. Many thanks to Blumen F.U.S.S. for the 37 white roses. Many thanks to the owner of the Glashaus, which could be used for free for 4 days! Many thanks to the owner of Yede-Gör, who voluntarily brought us Ayran. Many thanks to the Düsseldorfer Drogenhilfe for the hot coffee. Many thanks to the Düsseldorfer Diamorphinambulanz for the hot dogs and thanks to the many visitors who took part in the actions! Without you, we could not have done it!
